Commedia dell'arte
Commedia dell'arte (Comedy of art) workshop
If you prefer a one week of Lab you can read the description also in English of the Meyerhold’s Biomechanics Summer School. It's directed by maestro Claudio Spadola in a wonderful and quiet country house, among the hills of Montefeltro (Cagli, PU, Marche - Italy) and every year students come from all over the world.
Instead, the following is the shorter Lab of Commedia dell'arte in Rome or wherever it is required:
Duration: 4-6 hours
Languages: Italian, French, English, Spanish, Russian, German
Location: Il Cantiere Theatre, Trastevere, Rome or in an other space proposed by the university, school or tourist agency that requested the laboratory
In the Commedia dell’arte Workshop we rediscover the roots of contemporary theatre, in which the various typologies of mankind are reproduced through "fixed types". The Commedia dell’arte is fun, ductile, dynamic, creative, expressive and based on listening and improvisation.
The workshop is structured as follows:
Physical Training - Coordination, breakdown of preparation-action-reaction and movement fluidization, propulsion centers and physical characterization.
Fixed Types – history, attitude, body and movement of the mask characters (Pantalone (Trouser), Dottore (Doctor), Zanni, Arlecchino (Harlequin), Brighella, Capitano (Captain)) and characters without masks (Innamorati, Colombina).
Mask Use techniques - use of leather masks of the "fixed types" of comedy created by the masters Fava and Santelli from hand-carved wood matrices.
Relations of Strength – How the "fixed types" interact (Pantalone /Harlequin; Pantalone / Dottore; Dottore / Innamorati; Pantalone / Innamorati; Pantalone / Dottore; Arlecchino/Brighella; Arlecchino /Colombina; Capitano/ Pantalone).
Improvisation - Acquire techniques of improvisation like comedians of art: Acting
“all’improviso”.
